Superintendent's Message

Mrs. Ford-Johnston

Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Ford-Johnston

The 2015-2016 school year is approaching the half way point. Much has been accomplished but more learning, challenges and adventures are promised this winter and spring.
We are so excited to finally be able to have our new website operational for us all to use. What you are able to see here is only the beginning. Very soon there will be teacher pages filled with resources and up to date information and much much more. We know that this has been a long process delayed by a number of obstacles. But with Mr. Meyer’s help we are well on our way to bringing the Westport Central School District’s new website to life! Your patience has been appreciated.
As has been the case for the past few years, change is in the air. Changes in regulations and funding from the Federal and State levels of government have and will continue to impact how our District is able to operate. Changes in staff here at Westport has contributed to changes in courses and opportunities for our students. Changes in numbers of students available to field athletic teams have supported the merging of teams. As we’ve seen over “the past” year, change will be challenging but the results have more often than not a positive outcome.
We all hear of “sharing” as the wave of the future. Here at Westport Central we are embracing that wave. Our District currently shares professional staff with our local BOCES and NERIC, a Director of Student Support Services with Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School, a Food Service Director with three other districts, bus routes, some transportation services with neighboring districts and soon a Superintendent. Plans are in motion for Mr. Osborne to take over the responsibility of Superintendent of Schools, the temporary position I have filled for the past eighteen months, beginning in July 2016. The two districts, by planning ahead have afforded time to plan for a smooth transition. As the 2016-2017 budget planning process begins, other “sharing” opportunities may become evident. Being as efficient and effective as possible are the driving forces behind this concept.
Westport Central School has a legacy of strength and academic excellence. Continuing to work together as a community united for our children, promising to provide the best opportunities possible and a safe and secure learning environment, we will assure that that legacy continues.
I look forward to these next months as we all work together to prepare our community’s children for whatever their future holds.

Mr. Joshua R. Meyer

Welcome to Westport Central School! As principal, I am proud to be part of such an historic school community and look to continue to build upon the excellent education offered to our students.  As a school, we serve the educational needs of our students beginning in kindergarten and oversee their academic, social, and emotional growth through 12th grade.  I am sure you and your family will find our school community to be a positive, engaging, and rewarding experience.

We recognize student success as being dependent on the cooperation of parents and school district staff.   Parents are our partners in the job of educating the children of this community.  Personal communication between home and school is vital to providing the best possible educational experiences for children.  Please help us foster this relationship by attending school functions and monitoring your child’s school progress.

As the K-12 Principal of Westport Central School, my goal is to foster the development of the whole school community by:

-Enhancing communication with and between all stakeholder groups.
-Challenging the academic, social, and emotional growth of our students.
-Promoting a safe, positive school environment for our students and faculty.

I thank you in advance for your support and encourage you to be as active as possible in your child’s education; working together as a team will ensure the future success of our children.  Should you have any questions, concerns, or needs, please contact me and I will do my very best to assist you in any way I can.

  • It occurred to me on Groundhog’s Day that at this point during most winters, I begin to look forward to the spring and have had my fill of winter. This year, I feel like I am still waiting for winter to begin. I have been skiing only once this year, cross country skiing 0 times, snowshoeing 0 times, and sledding with my kids only once…but enough about the weather. We are cruising right along into our third marking period with some exciting things happening in the classroom. We welcome two new elementary students into Kindergarten and 2nd grade, brothers Michael and Andrew, from the Ukraine. The K-6 students had a Character Education assembly today discussing the character traits of empathy and respect. Further classroom activities will follow. For the second year, Chloe Mitchell has been selected as the FBLA speech winner. This year’s topic is “Free Enterprise: Problems I Would Solve as a Social Entrepreneur”. The basketball teams are finishing up their regular season games with some solid performances. Anderson Gay hit the 1000 point mark last night in the boys’ varsity basketball game vs. Seton!
