Ms. Tonya Lackey

I was born in Ephrata, PA. I am one of six children. I have two sisters who live in Colorado, a brother who lives in Wisconsin, and a sister and brother who remained in Pennsylvania. My parents live in the same house I grew up in and are fortunate enough to travel to see each one of their children and their families. My husband and I live in Keene, NY with our seven year old daughter. But we have not always lived in Keene. We started in Lititz, PA, moved to Ephrata, PA and then to Corning, NY prior to relocating to Keene, NY in 2003.

I have a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Lafayette College in Easton, PA. I have worked for GPU Energy as a telecom engineer and for Corning Incorporated as an Applications and Product Engineer. I have worked in both the telecommunications (optical switching) and in the lithography industries. I went back to school to earn my Masters of Science in Teaching from SUNY Plattsburgh. I am NYS certified in both 7-12 Mathematics and K-12 Technology. I began teaching with a long term substitute position at Plattsburgh High School in the Technology Department. In 2005, I started teaching full time at Willsboro Central School where I taught Physics and several levels of Mathematics including 7th grade math, Math AB, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Math B. In 2007, I took a job at Lake Placid Middle/High School where I taught Math 7, Advanced Math 7, AIS and AP Calculus. In 2011, I decided to take a sabbatical from teaching to return to Corning Incorporated in Canton, NY. After making a two hour commute each way for four years and missing the classroom, I returned to teaching. In 2015, I joined the Westport teaching staff. I am VERY excited to bring my engineering experience coupled with the several years of teaching experience into the Technology classroom. I hope to bring my love for engineering to the students of the Westport community. I truly believe if we are going to be a strong nation in the future we need more engineers, more critical thinkers, and more problem solvers. I hope to instill a passion to think critically and to creatively solve a problem into my students.

I love living in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains where I enjoy hiking, skiing, biking and most of all running. I have completed 5 marathons, several half marathons, countless 15k's, 10k's and 5k's, and the Race to the Beach Relay in New Hampshire. I enjoy reading, knitting and spending time with my family.
