Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Tom Smith
I have been certified as a social studies teacher for 10 years. In that time I have taught in a variety of settings. I began my career at Seton Catholic where I taught Global 9, American History, Government and Economics. Most recently I have worked for the last 6 years at Mountain Lake Services where I was a Staff Development Coordinator. I oversaw the training and educating of roughly 200+ employees to work with and support people with developmental disabilities in their daily activities so that they may lead a well rounded and meaningful life. While there I taught CPR/1st Aid, crisis intervention, blood born pathogen training, and much more. I am also an ACSM certified personal trainer and still enjoy training at a couple of days a week at the Wellness and Fitness Center in Plattsburgh.
I received my B.A. in Geography from Plattsburgh State and my M.S. in Teaching high school social studies also from Plattsburgh State.
After college I never left the north country. I loved the area and realized that this is where I belonged. My Great Grandmother was originally from Plattsburgh and I have a lot of family in the area. I have always felt at home in the Adirondacks because of this. Currently, I live in Keeseville with my wife and 3 daughters; Maddie, 8, Kaelee, 6, and Kenzie, 1. They keep us very busy! I am an aspiring 46er, having completed 30 of the 46 high peaks. I have also completed two Spartan Races, overcoming challenges that I previously thought were too difficult. I am now looking at completing my Spartan Race Trifecta in the coming year. Exercise and activity are strong driving forces in my life and I spend much of my time strength training, golfing, kayaking and hiking.
Thanks for taking the time to learn a little more about me.
